The BioTec 18000 is a multi-stage mechanical and biological filtration system in a compact package, designed for larger ponds or for ponds with high biological load (many fish).
In the initial mechanical filtration stage, particles and debris are caught by a 300-micron mesh, which is cleaned automatically at regular intervals. Removal of coarse debris at this stage improves the efficiency of the biological filtration phase and significantly reduces maintenance frequency.
During the biological filtration stage, the water is channeled through a series of filter foams that create a special environment by allowing the settling of beneficial bacteria. During this stage, harmful ammonia and nitrites are converted to nitrates, which support plant life in the pond. BioTec 18000 features a built-in cleaning mechanism that does not require removal of the filter foams during maintenance.
In a final stage, dissolved phosphate is removed with OASE Phosless cartridges. These cartridges bind phosphate which promote algae growth and remove it from circulation. Phosless cartridges are consumables and need to replaced from time to time.
