Aquascape MicroPond Kit 6' x 8' (500 gal.)
The Aquascape MicroPond® 500 gallon (6' x 8') pond kit is the mid-sized offering in the MicroPond® line. It's small enough to be quite installation friendly, but spacious enough to provide lots of design and organic habitat options. Each kit contains the basic components and accessories you'll need to create a dynamic aquatic environment in your landscape. One size doesn't always fit all when it comes to garden ponds, but this one is a good balance between ease of installation and flexible functionality. The instructions are straightforward, and the whole thing goes together pretty quickly, too.
The MicroPond® product line is designed with the DIYer in mind, so equipment sizing and compatibility issues have been handled for you. There's still plenty of room for creative expression in the layout, though. With a 500 gallon capacity, this pond makes a dynamic statement without overwhelming a small to medium sized yard. The convenient size is also easy to maintain.

Pond liner material - MicroPond® liners are made using *45 mil EPDM with a 20 year guarantee. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a water repellant rubber material that's completely safe for fish and aquatic plants. It's used extensively in the roofing industry as an impermeable membrane under shingle installations.
Geotextile underlayment - A pond's underlayment is the base, the layer that maintains constant contact with the soil. It performs an important function by protecting the pond liner from sharp stones and punctures from tree roots. Geotextile underlayment material is especially designed to cradle the sloping sides of a pond where sand and cellulose, other common underlayment options, tend to wear away over time. Because it's porous, a geotextile underlayment also allows naturally occurring gasses in the soil to escape around the submerged structure of the pond. Gas accumulation is one explanation for the liner deformation "bulges" experienced by some pond owners.
*45 mil is about the thickness of a dime. That's thin enough to be flexible, but plenty thick enough to stand up to years of constant exposure to water and temperature variations.
