These melodious birds readily nest in manmade cavities, and this durable, cedar piece sports a bevy of features that keep the birds protected. A 1.5" diameter entry hole rests on the front of the shelter, surrounded by a significant, 1" thick piece of cedar. This cleverly extends the entry, forming a barrier which discourages squirrels and other predators from reaching into the nest cavity. A black, lapped roof overhangs this entry, protecting the nest from rain, and a gap beneath it helps ventilate the shelter. Routed lines slightly above the base hold a wire mesh screen, which acts as a nest lift to prevent blowfly infestations. The front panel raises upward to check the nest, and skerfs on the interior of this section help nestlings reach the hole when ready to exit. Attach this shelter to a post or pole using a mounting bracket, or affix its extended back panel to a fence or wall for a different look.
