A 1.5" diameter entry hole rests on the front of each shelter, surrounded by a significant, 1" thick piece of cedar. This cleverly extends each entry, forming a barrier which discourages squirrels and other predators from reaching into the nest cavity. A black, lapped roof overhangs the entries, protecting the nests from rain, and a gap beneath each helps ventilate the shelter. Routed lines slightly above the base hold a wire mesh screen, which acts as a nest lift to prevent blowfly infestations. The front panels raise upward to check the nests, and skerfs here help nestlings reach the holes when ready to exit. Attach each shelter to a post or pole using a mounting bracket, or affix their extended back panels to a fence or wall for a different look.
